Water pollution is a big problem seeing 70% of the Earth is covered by water & it is one of the most valuable resources that exists. Sewage and fertilizers contribute to water pollution causing more algae and plant life in water to grow rapidly which clogs up waterways. Waterlife then dies down because of all the blockage. Soil being washed into bodies of water after rain also contribute to water pollution. Life of organisms in the water become more and more suffocated as water pollution continues on. Many organisms die off because of the water pollution. People can also get very sick from contaminated water that seeps into the ground. It can cause kidney & liver problems, and also cancers. Conserving water by turning off the tap when not using it, not throwing paints and other liquids down drains, not using pesticides and fertilizers, and not littering are all ways of helping to keep from causing more and more water pollution.
The definition of global warming according to Google is, ” An overall increase in world temperatures which may be caused by additional heat being trapped by greenhouse gases. ” Greenhouse gases contribute to the heating of the Earth & significantly add to global warming. Without the greenhouse effect, earth would not be able to have people inhabiting it because it would be too cold. The increase of greenhouse gases has caused global warming.
As you can see to the left, the biggest contribution to the greenhouse effect is CO2. The generation of energy that comes from fossil fuels adds to & produces more greenhouse gases. In 2003, most households contributed greatly to the effects directly by producing 12.4 tons of carbon dioxide and about 11.7 tons from use of transportation. Indirectly, in 2003, carbon emissions per household were 35 tons. Total carbon dioxide emissions across the US per household came to about 59 tons or 118,000 pounds in the year 2003. The rest of the world in comparison, only uses one sixth as much carbon emissions than the US. The US emits the most greenhouse gases out of any nation. Using wind power and solar power could help to decrease the greenhouse effects. Using less heat & electricity, recycling, driving less, using less hot water, etc. could all help to stop global warming.
Air pollution is one of the many problems we face. Air pollution occurs when there are substances in the air that aren’t naturally there. Both natural and humans contribute to air pollution, mostly humans. Forest fires, volcanic eruptions, wind erosion, pollen dispersal, evaporation of organic compounds, and natural radioactivity are some natural causes of air pollution. Natural air pollution does not cause health problems to the people of the environment. Air pollutants caused by humans such as factories on the other hand do. Human made air pollutants usually occur around bigger cities where populations are higher. Air pollution can be decreased. Natural air pollutants have no way of being stopped but humans can help with the air pollution caused by them. Carpools, using other ways of transportation (trains, bikes, buses, walking), reducing electricity use, planting trees, etc. are all ways of helping to keep human made air pollutants at a lower level.
